For wooden kitchen items, rubbing a small amount of Food Grade Sealant periodically prevents absorption of food odours, eases the cleaning process and maintains the integrity of your wooden items, by filling small surface cracks that may otherwise harbour bacteria during the repeated wetting and drying of normal use. Simply put, regular application of our Food Grade Sealant will prevent chopping boards from becoming dry and brittle, which can cause a cracked board. A board that is treated with this product also prevents liquids from penetrating the board, which is often the source of germs and bacteria.
- Start with a clean board and utensils. Be sure your chopping board and spoons are as clean as possible and thoroughly dry.
- Apply the Food Grade Sealant. Using a clean, soft cloth or paper towel, apply the Food Grade Sealant in an even layer over the wood.
- Let it soak in. Leave the Food Grade Sealant to soak in, overnight if possible, or for at least a few hours. The timber has a saturation point – if after a while there is oil that has not been absorbed, then your item has reached its saturation point and will not absorb any more Sealant.
- Remove the excess. Buff off any remaining oil with a clean dry cloth.
